September 2022
If I told my younger self,
“One day you will meet the third Great Alex”,
I would have said, “no way – there will only ever be
two Great Alexes. There is
Alexander the Great, one of history’s
greatest military minds and leaders, and then
There’s the Great Library of Alexandria,
Built to realise a dream: To house all the
knowledge in the world.”
I never met the Great Man and will never
Set foot in the Great Library,
But I did meet you in person
And see you on Teams.
If da Vinci saw you, I reckon there would be no ‘Mona Lisa’
But there would be a painting called the ‘Alexandra’.
Using the finest oil paints, brushes, pigments
I guess he would try to capture
The impossible: The glow of your blonde hair,
Radiant skin, your cute nose and
Big brown eyes, as brown as freshly made
Hot Cocoa.
Have you heard the saying:
“No one knows what the future holds?”
It’s strange because I think I know:
When I look up and see the stars
Scattered across the night sky,
You are, and always will be, the brightest star,
The one that shines during the day, when the blinds are down,
And at night when most people have left the office.
You really are an inspiration
Because you bring out the best
In me and I’ve seen you
Bring out the best in others.
Alex, I would love to learn about
The things you love, the things you hate, your dreams,
Your love life, your friends, your family.
Maybe after reading this you’ll tell me.
But if you don’t want to, I will wait
And wait some more, for the day when
I can be cool around you.
Sigh Wan
