The unagi sushi from
the rotating sushi bar
in Harrods
must’ve been made
with perfection
in mind.
The price, though,
was so dear
I had to share
the two small pieces
in front of me
with my cousin…

The sushi that came
with my meal in Japan,
on the other hand,
satisfied a hunger
my soba noodles
just couldn’t.
When dipped in
the tsuyu sauce
my Japanese crush recommended,
the noodles tasted delicious –
but it was the sushi
on the side
I remember liking
a whole lot more…

As the years go by,
it’s memories like these
that offer the kind of
companionship
I expect
from a good friend.
